Its literally that easy.
No seriously, it’s that easy.
Most fail to understand that simple fundamentals performed over long periods of time, yield unfathomably large returns.
But here is where most screw it up..
Instead of focusing on developmentally sound modality, parents have their kids skip over the “easy” stuff and constantly peak over the fence to look at the (perceived) magic pills the others are eating.
Then, they eat up their desire for flash and confirm their flawed biases by injecting their kids (without any resemblance of a foundation) into “advanced” (marketing term) modality.
There is no better representation of “cart before the horse” than the world of youth sports.
For those who really want to maximize their athletic development, I’ll give you the complex formula.
Step 1: Train with someone who actually knows what they are doing.
Cutting edge advice I know, but sadly I have to make the point as the overwhelming majority of kids are being “trained” by scam artists who can get away with training them incorrectly because there is no governing body or consumer to hold them accountable.
Do a remedial amount of homework, ensure whoever is training you (or your kid) is legit. There is no greater weapon for athletic development than mentorship from a coach who knows what the hell he is doing with kids.
Step 2: Eat & drink like a responsible human being.
You don’t have to be perfect, you can mess up, but eat. No seriously, just eat. I care less about what it is or where it’s from, but you must eat. Of course, good choices are better than poor choices, but simply consuming calories and drinking fluids will make a world of difference for athletes who are heavily undernourished for the energy demands placed upon them.
Step 3: Prioritize Sleep
Go to bed. That’s all. Turn your phone off. You can watch TikTok and bask in the meaningless drama that will in no way add value to your life, tomorrow. Sleeping is steroids for youth athletes. (Literally).
That’s it. That’s the formula.
Train with a knowledgeable coach, eat and drink like a responsible human being, and go to sleep. Do that more than you don’t and good things will happen by default.
So easy, it’s hard.
