They are products of their commitment to personal discipline.
“People are products of who they associate with, what they consume, & their commitment to personal discipline.
Do you run with the right people?
Do you watch, read, & eat the right stuff?
Are you doing what you said you’d do when nobody is watching?
Actions > Cheap Talk.”
-Ray Zingler on X
“If you run with the lame, you will develop a limp.”
That phrase from the godfather of Strength Training in America, Louie Simmons is so profound and important to me, I had it custom printed on canvas to be hung in our gym.
It’s such a simple statement, but it is so true.
You’re not who you want to be or who you say you want to be, you are who your actions defend.
“I want to be the best…”
You can say it all day long, but are your actions defending the claim?
Are you running with the right people?
The cliché phrases of “Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future” and “You are the average of the 5 people you most associate with” might be cliché, but they are invariably true.
Choose your friends and who you spend most of your time with, wisely. It matters more than you think.
Are you watching, reading, & eating the right stuff?
“Huh!?”
We are products of what we consume, do you think (truly) world class, straight edge people are watching porn, reading gossip novels, and eating like slobs?
Hell no they’re not.
They are reading insightful literature related to personal and professional development to distance themselves even further from the crowd.
And rarely will you see world class people watching anything other than their success metrics continue to climb. If they have a Netflix show or two, I can assure that is the exception, not the norm.
Are you eating right?
“What does that have to do with success?”
Everything.
If you eat, look, and present yourself as a slob, nobody will take you seriously. Not even yourself.
Sure, there are people who have money who are unhealthy and out of shape, but while they may have all the money in the world, the lack of internal discipline haunts them deep down every time they look in the mirror. Or at least it should. Because what that is, is a lack of personal discipline.
And that is exactly what the entire sentiment of this message is about.
Discipline.
Again, you are not who you want to be.
You are a reflection of your commitment to your own personal discipline.
Actions will forever speak louder than words.
