To round out this week’s theme of Athlete Nutrition, I wanted to put together a Top 20 list of the ‘main’ foods I ate to ensure I was getting enough calories in to aid in the attainment of my goals.

These weren’t the only foods I ate, I ate fruits and vegetables, too, but these were the foods that made up the bulk of my diet.

I will also round out what a typical day of eating looked like for me.

I want to preface this “day in the life”, with letting you know that I was a bit (depending on who you asked, bit could be upgraded to insanely) extreme when it came to getting in my calories.

You don’t have to do this. It was probably overkill, but I did it, and it worked for me. You could probably eat less and still see results.

I went from a scrawny 160 pounds to 250 pounds over the course of 8 years, with my biggest jump coming from my Sophomore year of HS to my Senior year of HS where I went from 160 to 225.

I didn’t get fat & I did this completely drug free.

Let’s get started.

I would typically start my day out with a hearty 3-4 egg omlet with all the fixin’s dad was nice enough to make for my sister and I in the mornings.

When I’d get to school, they sold CFA Biscuits for $2 each, so I’d grab two of those, cover them in strawberry jelly, & crush them with a protein shake.

Throughout the course of my day, I would have 1, 25-50g protein shake after each class period. Six (6) total shakes during the school day.

For lunch, I’d typically have a chicken tender basket with fries and a 12” sub sandwich.

After school, I’d go to Wendy’s and grab 5 Double Stacks –2,080 calories. “That’ll be $5.20, sir.” Those were the days.

Then I’d train, eat dinner with my family (typical American steak, potato, and green dinner).

Then before bed, I’d make a 1500-2000kcal shake with ice cream, protein powder, PB, and chocolate syrup to round out my day.

Again, every day was (marginally) different, but I ate like this every day, for multiple years.

Funny enough, I wasn’t a “hard gainer” anymore.
