Real Coaches Don't Care About Names Or Levels

“As a ‘Performance’ Coach, there is nothing more cringey than chasing the training of Pro Athletes.

You’re doing this for your own ego and perceived credibility, not for them.

A real Coach doesn’t care about names or levels, he cares about improving the lives of people.”

You see it all the time and it’s the cringest thing in the world.

Coaches in our industry selling their souls to get Pro Athletes to train with them/at their facility.

It’s cringy and disrespectful not only to the athletes, but to the industry as a whole.

There is nothing wrong with desiring to train Pro Athletes, but I can assure you a real coach isn’t selling his soul to the devil to look cool on Instagram.

News Flash: Most Pro’s don’t find the real ones by accident.

I’m not implying the training of Pro Athletes isn’t essential work, either, but let’s be honest most of the time when you’re dealing with the genetic outliers out there, you’re not doing a whole lot of work outside of ensuring they don’t get hurt. (Many “coaches” in the industry even screw that part up.)

As former Alabama S&C Coach Scott Cochran said, “I’m just putting spinners on Bentley’s.” And it’s true.

Funny enough, I have one of Scott Cochran’s former athletes, now NFL athlete in my facility this morning. Do you think I’m showing him some custom, cutting edge, secret exercise that’s going to contribute to his abilities as a football player?

Nah, I’m catching up with him, rubbing elbows, and giving him some feedback.

Do you want to make a real difference?

I’m talking a life changing difference..

Go work with a demographic of athletes who you can help develop from a 4.7 to a 7.4 on the ‘scale’.

That right there is WORK. I mean absolute work. Work that not only requires competence and skill from a Professional Coach, but an immense amount of time.

An immense amount of time that will be poured into kids who likely won’t get you the most likes on Instagram or increase your perceived credibility.

But guess what, those kids need real coaches and are damn worth it.

I’ll take high level college athletes. I’ll take the best of the best, Pro Athletes, I appreciate them just as I do anyone else, but I will not overlook that kid sitting in a high school classroom with loads of untapped potential who desires to be the best he can be.

You’ll put me in an old pine box before you see me overlook that kid.
