Developing discipline (and the plethora of qualities that come with it) via training is a gift that keeps on giving.
“Training year round with a Quality S&C Coach is the biggest performance cheat code you can give a kid.
And that’s just one side.
Then, you factor in discipline, time management, and positive association with training and you’ve just ingrained qualities that will set them up for life.”
-Ray Zingler on Twitter
It’s the season of giving!
If you want to give yourself or your kid the best chance of athletic success this coming year, invest in the gift of General Physical Preparation with a High Quality, Proven, Strength & Conditioning Coach who understands the current landscape of our youth sports and how to help our kid’s navigate it so that he or she can reach the pinnacle of their potential.
This is the part most people, parents, kids, and coaches miss.
They are so hyper-consumed on their thing that they don’t understand cause and effect.
They don’t understand give and take.
They don’t look at things from a global perspective.
Doing something the way you’ve always done it in an ever-evolving landscape is quite honestly, the best way to stagnate your growth and performance potential.
The above is not only true for youth sports performance enhancement, but nearly every other facet of life.
I often sit back from afar and ask myself, “Is anybody paying attention?”
Our kids are playing the highest volume of sport they’ve ever played.
Our (largely preventable) youth sport injury rates are higher than they’ve ever been.
Our kids, who are growing up in a world full of screens have never been more (generally) physically unprepared.
To summarize, simply:
Cause: Too much sport. Too Little Physical Preparation
Effect: High rates of injury. Suboptimal Performance
Solution: Less Sport. More Physical Preparation
I mean this is quite simply the most 1+2= 3 equation in the history of the world, but we ignore it because “this is just the way it is these days” and we blame injuries on “bad luck”.
The real reason it’s like this is because of the money in the adult’s hands.
“Little League Elbow? Brush it off bud, we need your fall tournament dues.” Coach just didn’t tell you they are going towards his Ford Raptor payment.
Beyond the gift of physical preparation that our kids’ physiology is starving for, S&C will also give beyond the initial value.
S&C more than anything, will help develop discipline. The greatest gift in the world.
You’re busy? We all are. Prioritizing real training will develop time management skills. Remember, there is a difference between not having time and not having the discipline to manage your time.
Finally, what do you think happens when you help an impressionable teen positively associate with the physical outlet that is training?
If you guessed it becomes part of their identity and significantly increases their chances of living a health/fitness conscious life for the remainder of their days, you guessed right.
S&C is a gift for today, yes, but the real value is found in what it provides tomorrow.
